They say love finds you when you least expect it—and in our case, it found us in the most unexpected way: through a videogame during the 2020 lockdown.

With the world at a standstill and social lives reduced to screen time, we both joined a game one night through a mutual friend we didn’t usually hang out with. Among the chaos of building, dodging bullets, and trying to survive, Tiaan made a completely random joke about how his cat barks at the dogs. It was ridiculous, hilarious—and somehow, it just clicked. In that silly moment, I (Maggie) knew there was something special about him.

What followed was nearly a year of late-night games, constant banter, uncontrollable laughter, and a friendship that quietly grew into something deeper. There was no rush—just two people connecting across pixels and time zones, slowly realizing that they’d found something real.

Four years later, under the glittering night lights reflecting off the waters of Dubai, Tiaan got down on one knee. And in that breathtaking moment, surrounded by a city that shines almost as brightly as our journey, I said yes.
